Evaluation

For this Project we were asked to write a proposal for an idea to do with a Short  Film.  We had to do this separately to get one major idea. The idea that I came up with for this was to do with a girl or boy turning into a cartoon. as a secret at the very end of the film showing their true identity. First of all I brainstormed some major ideas that I could use for my short film. The final idea that I came up with for my short film was a girl turning into a cartoon at the end of the film. This was to show their true identity. The message that I wanted to get across to the audience is that people are born into a special person. Also it gives the message that some people have a religion that is special to them. I felt connected with my idea because it shows how much people including me loves cartoons and animations. Also I feel connected with my idea because it reminds me of my Christian life and my cartoon mind.

Research-  The research that I have done for this project is that I have looked at two different short films. One called Ashes and one called Lemonade. Both of the short films that I have looked at is horror like and dark. I have brainstormed my ideas that I would like to use for my short film. The research that I have found the most helpful with this project is my Secondary Research  because I have analysed other people's work. Also this is the most helpful research because it showed how different people create short films in their own way without dialogue.


Then I had to be put into a group of people that I would be making my short film with. I had to work with Eden and Amber which I enjoyed because they are two of my friends. We all worked well as a group to produce an entertaining film. We had a lot of outtakes that was funny. One of my favourite outtakes would have to be the accidently recording of all 3 of us. We didn't realise that the camera was on.  As a group all 3 of our ideas was conjoined to make one final film. The final idea that all 3 of us came up with was for one character acting as a tomboy with a secret identity. The other character was supposed to be shocked. It took a lot of takes to get the right scene each time. I had to white balance to make sure that I understood what I wa supposed to be doing. Even though white balance didn't happen in my group due to the lack of skills used from the camera person and  the directors.

This is because we couldn't stop laughing. It was mainly me who couldn't stop laughing. It was quite funny to redo each scene again and again. My two friends kept on laughing which made me go with laughing. I was constantly loosing it with laughter. The final film turned out very well in the end though which I enjoyed, I was very pleased with the result. I would like to do it again even though it was funny. This is because I had to much fun and I got into the filming. My amazing acting skills came in handy when it came to filming. The only thing that didn't go as well is the fact that I forgot what I was doing and I couldn't stop laughing. It was too funny not to laugh. A major outtake/blooper.

The Directors that inspired me when I came to make my short film was Sophie Black- Ashes because it showed me how to create a short film using cool make-up effects and cool sound effects and injuries which I enjoyed. I didn't' personally use this in my short film project because I didn't think that it would have looked good with it.

 The person who did  most of the editing throughout  the project was Amber. I had to do some of the editing to show that I could edit a video. I did a skeleton edit to make sure that all of my video was in the right place at the right time.

The problems that I had with my short film was that The camera accidently recorded when  I wasn't expected it to record. It was quite funny but serious at the same time. I found it hard not to laugh because the scenario was funny.

I don't think that I did follow my production schedule as well as I should have done because I feel I finished a bit earlier then expected. Also I didn't need all of the time of my schedule as I finished a little earlier then expected. I wasn't expected it. Also there wasn't any weather issues because most of the filming was done inside. However the only filming that I had to do outside was running and walking out of the door into  college. This went ok but a lady and her child was in the way so I couldn't act the scene out without bumping into them. I found this quite funny and entertaining because it took about 3 to 4 attempts to get it right without bumping and bashing into people. Also the camera didn't stay on the tripod as I would have liked causing the scene to be cut short a little. This was annoying as I couldn't act out the full scene.

I feel that if I was to do this project again the things that I would change is probably the scenario. This is because some of the scenes didn't work aswell as I would have liked them to work. They didn't turn out as well as I would have liked it to have turned out. This is because of the unexpected people being in the shot. Also another thing that I would change if I was to do this again is I would probably use other actors because I don't think that the scenario went as well as it should have gone. I got confused with what I was supposed to do as the directors changed their minds quite quickly before I had the chance to know what I was supposed to be doing. This annoyed me a little because I didn't know how to act the scene.

  The demographic audience for this project was that it affects people who want to be a Tomboy or a boy or an identity that they are comfortable with. The target Audience that my short Film is aimed for is mainly 15 year olds.

The roles that I had to do for my project was that I had to act out a boy. Kind of like a Tomboy. This was fun to act out because I acted out double the trouble characters. Amber had to play herself to show that she found out about my secret.


Overall I feel as though  my project went well which I am happy with. I feel as though the music went well and the editing went well. I am very happy with my overall piece of work. I feel happy to have worked well on this project to show the secret- that does happen to people sometimes.

short film shooting

Today I have filmed my short film in my group using a video camera. It worked very well because we got the shots that we needed. The only thing that went wrong with the filming is the fact that I and Amber kept on laughing throughout the takes turning the video into lots of outtakes. We didn't white balance first but it was ok because we were mainly in  the same location. I am very proud with the result of the skeleton edit that I did as a group because the short film is coming together nicely.  The only thing that didn't go quite aswell is the fact that we kept laughing throughout the takes. My favourite part of the video was the scene where I turn from a girl into a boy like a tomboy causing Amber to be shocked. My favourite shots that we used was a two shot where you have both characters in the same shot. I also liked the shot where there was a close up of me looking at Amber because it showed my skills on filming. I enjoyed filming my short film because I really got into filming and I just loved it. I also did some editing on adobe premier which puts the short film or videos together for you. The only thing that didn't go quite so well was the fact that there was lots of talking and laughing throughout the filming. I got into acting which I was very happy with. I would do this again but to improve I would White Balance in every location incase something goes wrong. I would have no talking in the shots because i feel as though that ruined my filming of the director(Eden) talking into he background causing the shots to get interrupted.

Classification for short film group/classification

Today I have discussed with one of my group members(Amber) the classification that we will use for our short film. The classification that we have discussed is 15. This is because there is a sexual influence that will be used in our film in a serious way instead of a jokey way making it a 15 instead of a 12 or 12 A.

I have also learnt some interesting facts to do with the different classifications in films on BBFC website which was very interesting. I found out information that I didn't know from each classification which shocked me a bit. BBFC stands for British Board, Film, Classification

Classification

Today I have learnt how important classification is in films which shows what age range different people.
BBFC stands for British Board of Film Classification
It is important that films are regulated(checked)to make sure that the classification fits the right.correct age group/range, The website doesn't get any profit which I found interesting as I didnt know that before,the classification has to be the lowest as possible to fit the correct age range that it is supposed to be suitable for.
U classification on  DVD covers stands for Universal. Universal is for everybody/anyone can watch the film  An example of a U film is Monsters Inc, A U film is aimed mianly for children aged 4 years. under 4's have a a specific label
In a U film characters might be seen kissing/cuddling, parents behind door, Brief violence, mild fight scenes

PG stands for Parental Guidance meaning that children need permission from their parents before watching the film under the age of 15. An example of a PG film would be Toy Story. In a PG film mild language may be used .

The next classification up from a PG is 12/12A. 12 A means that you have to be at least 12 or above to watch the film and 12 means 12 year olds can watch the film. If A 12 year old or above is watching this type of film they have to be accompined by an adult when they are at a cinema, strong language is mainly used in a 12 A film, Violence is used in a  12/12A classiification film but only briefly, verbal references shouldn't go beyond what is suitable.

The 15 classification on the cover of films indicates that you have to be 15 to watch the film. No-one under the age of 15 is allowed to see this type of film. A 15 film uses strong violence, frequent strong language, drug taking and sexual rudity which a 15 year old would be able to take seriously unlike a 12 year old who wouldn't be able to take this seriously, In a 12 film violence and verbal references are used in a joke type way but in a 15 film they are used seriously. In a 15 film there is no upper limit for strong language

The classification of 18 means that only adults can see the film due to very strong language and verbal references. No-one under the age of 18 can see an 18 film.

Film shoot improvements

The things  that need improving with my film is:
. To take the videos when people aren't walking past, mainly when people are in lessons so they don't get in the way of the filming, the location that I filmed on was the back of college(entrance to college) because it was break time causing people to walk past
. To use one of the scenes as two scenes as it didn't look very good  as a panning shot the video camera around in one shot (it would be better to use two filming shots for this scene as it has worked better), location was the back of college
. To improve my group's storyboard as it wasn't very detailed

The three things that I have had to take into account today whilst filming was:
. To check the weather incase it rained which it did causing the camera to get wet which it shouldn't have done
. To check the location to make sure it was suitable for filming
. I have had to take into account the timing that I was filming because it gives the idea of how long the shots should have been

The things that I have found difficult whilst filming today was the timing of having to take the different shots in that I took, also another thing that I found difficult whilst filming today was walking around as a group because I had to watch other people whilst they were filming which I didn't particularly like. I found this difficult because I would have rather done it in my group instead of having a large group whilst filming. Another thing that I found difficult was the weather because it was raining whilst I was walking around as a large group which didn't help whilst filming.

The location that was new to me today that I discovered was the park behind the college because I didn't know it was there as I have never been to that park before. I had to film a small bit just a little bit which was awkward as two strange men was watching which was annoying.

Formatting deletes everything on the sd or memory card so you can start filming or shooting again
Erasing all is getting rid of video/graphic images, still available on card, still leaves files on the memory/sd card

Audiences

Today I have looked at some stereotypes of different characters that people use. I have made notes, described what different type of characters are like/have, what they use when they come to create games and films. It also relates to me making a short film because it shows what characters I could create using different techniques and art skills. I enjoyed detailing/writing about different characters because it let explore different types of personalities.  This was a fun task because it let me use my imagination and mind to write about cool characters.


I have drawn myself as a stereotype which was the second task. This was because  I look at myself as a cartoon.


This was to show how important stereotyping is and why you shouldn't do it. It taught me that you shouldn't judge people through what they look like or what they like. It is important to treat people with respect instead of judging them on what they look like. This could also help me with creating characters in a game because it shows what people look like. This would be great to use in game designing for characters because it could help you with creating characters and how the characters will look with people seeing them through their eyes and not mine
