Audiences

Today I have looked at some stereotypes of different characters that people use. I have made notes, described what different type of characters are like/have, what they use when they come to create games and films. It also relates to me making a short film because it shows what characters I could create using different techniques and art skills. I enjoyed detailing/writing about different characters because it let explore different types of personalities.  This was a fun task because it let me use my imagination and mind to write about cool characters.

I have drawn myself as a stereotype which was the second task. This was because  I look at myself as a cartoon.

This was to show how important stereotyping is and why you shouldn't do it. It taught me that you shouldn't judge people through what they look like or what they like. It is important to treat people with respect instead of judging them on what they look like. This could also help me with creating characters in a game because it shows what people look like. This would be great to use in game designing for characters because it could help you with creating characters and how the characters will look with people seeing them through their eyes and not mine

Marissa- proposal blogged work 17/11/15

Today I have made a proposal for my short film before we got put into groups. This was to indicate my idea that I had to put into a short film if I was doing it on my own. The proposal was to pull together all of the ideas that I have for a short film incase my group could/want to use  any of the ideas in the short film as a group.

I liked doing the proposal because it showed my ideas put together in a great proposal. Also proposals are great because they help you get all your ideas in short paragraphs or a page so you don't forget your ideas for your short film.

My proposal went very well because I worked through the proposal guide lines in detail. My proposal was very detailed because I used detail to complete my proposal. I answered all of the questions using detail as the answers.

As a group we had to come up with some ideas as a brainstorm for our short film that we will be creating as a group. My group didn't particular do very much because we didn't have that many ideas that I think will evolve throughout 2 weeks.

I had to watch 3 short films to get an idea of what a short film is. The 3 short films that I watched was Desserts, Jet'aime and The black hole. I liked all 3 short films because they had a great story without any dialogue which was interesting. The black hole short film was very good because it showed a man going through a black hole as if it is his portal for everything. The short film Desserts is about a man who finds an éclair on the floor and eats it. This causes him to get swallowed by the ocean/ the sea. I like this short film because it shows that you shouldn't pick up random food and eat it. The music used for this short film was very good. The last short film that I watched was Jet'aime which was about a man who is at the train station  who ends up being the centre of attention to a man and his wife and a young boy who spits at him with a straw and a chocolate or something. The music used for this short film is a bit of suspense music showing that something wrong is happening to the man. I feel like the ending to this short film is open because I want to know what happens next. I think all 3 short films are an open ending because I want t find out what happens to all 3 of the characters after part of the ending

Proposal

My story that I have though of for my short film is two girls who are in college. One of the girl's/friends is hiding a secret from the other friend of her being a cartoon as her real identity.  Towards the middle of the short film one of the girl's has a flashback of her life. This is a flashback of the girl 's true identity from her previous life. This would be black and white because it shows that it is old. The two girls dont know the girl's secret or who she really is towards the short film. At the end the two girls are normal, they finally understand each other. One of the girl's reveals her identity to her friend outside college. The story shows two girls at college as ordinary girls. They are outside their lesson as they dont want to enter. One of the girl's doesn't want anyone to know her actually identity.  The short film that I would like to create is non linear because I would like to use a short flashback of the girl's identity before she is normalized to go to college, before she reveals to her friend who she really is.  The girl's friend is shocked to discover her friend's real life as a cartoon. I think that this is a great story and secret to show through a short film.   I have chosen to possibly use this story idea because I feel as though it is a good idea.

The plot for the short film is great because it fits the brief of having a secret. It would show a secret character acting normal whilst being in college. The amount of actors  that I would like to star in my short film is two. I would only like to use two actors because it would show the main story or backstory of the two characters. These are the two main characters for my short film and the only amount of characters that I would like to use. Using two actors would show how the two characters react to each other and their friendship that they have as friends. The type of narrative structure that I would use for my short film would be single strand. This is because I would only like the story/short film to be from one person's point of view. In this case it is from the secret girl's perspective. This is because it would show the life of a girl who is keeping a secret from everyone. She is a normal college girl who enters college to meet another girl which is her friend. It is from her perspective because I want to show how the girl will react of going to college with her friend of hiding an extraordinary secret.  The single strand would show how well she manages at college and outside. It also shows whether she will reveal her secret or not to her friend which she does. The single strand would show the girl revealing her identity to her friend outside college where her friend will be shocked and confused. This single strand would be at the end of the short film showing who the girl really is- and her story from a secret girl (that she had to hide from people ) going to college as a girl(not in her body) to revealing her self in front of her friend outside college showing her amazing journey from a secret-human back to a secret again.

I would like to use an open ending for my short film because I dont feel as though a closed ending would work for my story. An open ending for my short film would work a lot better because it would raise questions of what would happen to the girl after her secret is revealed and what her friend will do. It would raise questions of whether the girl will keep her secret to her and her friend or whether she will show other people. I would also like to get the reaction of the audience wanting to watch more to see what happens. It would be easier for me to do an open ending for this story because I dont know how to make it closed.

The effects that I might use for my short film is a magical type effect of the girl revealing her identity. I would use a harry potter type magic effect as though some-one is doing a spell or transforming, This is because I would like to add a bit of magic to my short film. The main genres that I would like to use for my short film is abit of comedy from the two friends possibly doing slapstick and an adventure of the secret girl hiding her identity and then revealing it in public just to her friend. Another effect that I would use for my short film is possibly split screen of the two friend's journey to college as themselves- as two different characters and their identities. This is because I would like to get the point across of the two friends not being friends, I would show who they really are and their journeys to college before meeting and becoming friends. Another effect that I would like to use is a tinted effect/black and white. This would be used in the flashback of the secret girl as her secret before becoming human to hide her identity. It would show that the flashback is old and a memory to the secret girl that no longer exists. I might also use slow-motion for the secret girl transforming into her secret and true identity in front of her friend. I would have this slow- motion because it would show who the character is, I would like the audience to get a closer look and time to work out who the girl is without it being speed up so the transformation can be nice and slow to get the full feel and emotion of the girl transforming from her cover self to her actual and real self.

The music that I would like to use for my short film is magical music of the transformation to show that this is the magical part of my short film. I would add tension possibly sad funeral music or part of a song for the girl's flashback as her real identity to show that that bit is gone, and that she has moved on from her past. This would make the audience feel as though they understand the girl's flashback as if they might be there themselves. The music would show the sad part of the short film of the girl looses her life and having to live her life in a world that she isn't used to or from making one true friend. I would add music also to the part of the two friends waiting in a corridor not in a lesson. The music in this part would show that the two friends are thinking of something upsetting. I might use a sound of a college bell indicating the two friends to be in college. This would be cut before the two girls enter their lesson. I dont want to show this not the best part of the film. I would also like to add a monologue or voice-over of the girl who has kept this secret from her friend for a while. The monologue would be about her new life with a true friend made. The monologue would also be about the girl with a secret telling the audience her new transport and how much her life is different and changed to happiness. This would show the audience that the secret girl is living a happy life now in a new world that she isn't used to. It would also show a bit of sorriness to the secret girl from the audience showing that the girl with an amazing secret loosing her world and family to living and being trapped in a world of loneliness with one friend. The very end of the short film would be a small monologue of the girl talking about her family and how she lost her family/world.

The audience that my short film is aimed for is for mainly children but teenagers aswell. This is because there is a cartoon character involved and children love cartoon characters. They would be aimed for people aged 10+ because of the fact that it isn't fully cartoon. More teenagers would prefer this  type of short film compared to children who would watch and prefer longer type films. It would be aimed for a 12 A film with no violence in the plot. I dont want violence in the plot anyway.

Audience Profiling

Audience Profiling Research Worksheet

Using the information covered in the lesson and conducting your own research, you will complete the following worksheet using the correct subject terminology.

ü  You will identify the audience profile of someone who watches CBeebies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdNlepXoQB4- 64 Zoo Lane. My favourite programme when I was younger. The psychographic audience for this programme would be children interested in  Zoos, animals and animations. . Possibly older. The Demographic  audience for this programme/channel would be ages 2-13 years old. The gender that the programme is aimed at is mixed. Both girls and boys. This is because of the way the programmes are introduced. The socio-economic audience part of the programme is a mixed class because it is aimed at younger children such as toddlers-young children age 12.

ü  You will identify the audience profile of someone who watches Grand Designs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlSmSBKA3vw- Grand Designs. The audience that the programme is aimed at is mainly for adults . The psychographic audience for this programme would be adults who are looking for a house that they would like to create themselves.  They would be interested in people who like designing things/gardeners might be interested. The demographic audience for this programme would be adults aged between 18-old age possibly. This is because of the way the house is introduced when the presenter shows the couple or person their new house(tour). The socio-economic audience part of the programme is an upper class because it is mainly aimed for adults , the money used would be people who have lots of money./a high wage. This programme is more of a documentary. I personally don't like this programme because I don't like the documentary parts of the programme.

Short Film further research (Notes)

Today I have researched/looked at a few short films on a website called http://www.thefilmnetwork.co.uk/film/centurion-resurrection (BBC film network)

I have found this very interesting because it has a lot of short films on the website showing how
it is done in professional terms/ways. It has inspired me to do something similar because I like some of the ways that the directors use different techniques to add more drama and effect.

I have learnt what realist and linear things are. Realistic is when it could or does happen in real life and Non realist is the opposite(when it doesn't/cant happen in real life like magical things). Linear is when the story is in order without any flashbacks and non linear is the opposite(when there is flashbacks). I have also learnt what single strand and multi strand narratives are. Single Strand narrative is when the story is told or focused on one character(back story), Multi Strand narrative is when the story or film is told or focused on more than one character(two characters), from their perspective.

I have also relearnt how to use monologues. A monologue  is a paragraph or sentence where a person is  talking about their life or story without talking. This is normally done in one person, from the characters point of view. I learnt this back in Drama in secondary school. I like monologues because it gets  the characters point of view across without talking.

I have learnt what a short film should include and what it shouldn't. It shouldn't be longer than 1-2 minutes otherwise it is longer than a short film. Short films don't include Guns, swearing or knifes or drugs. If there is a horror or crime it is shown with make-up and to the camera. Not to the audience.
The colours used in this short film is a bage colour showing that it isn't from the modern times/days. This also shows that it is supposed to be set in the roman times because of the centurion rising out from the water

Monologues would be very good to use in a short film because it shows what a character is feeling without them talking. The monologues show a character and their character through non verbal speech. This would be very good for a short film as you will be able to follow and understand a character as well as listen to what they have to say through non verbal talking. This would be non diegetic because you cant see a monologue which shows that it is a great effect to use when creating short films which would get the audiences attention without them seeing what the characters are directly saying.

This is my short film story idea that I would like to use for my short film. This is because I think that it is a good idea. I feel as though it needs a bit of editing but the overall storyline is great. It one of my skills in particular. That talent/skill would be drawing. This is just a rough version of my main storyline where two girls or boys become friends. One of the girls is hiding a secret without her real identity being uncovered. Whilst the other girl or boy is seeing a fake human being. At the end one of the girls reveals accidently her true and real identity of her being a cartoon character(true identity) but hiding it from her friend. There would also be either a monologue or a voice over for this. Prefably at the end where the girl is revealed as a cartoon character. There would be a little bit of dialogue of the two friends meeting each other and when the girl reveals her true identity.

Short Film research

I have looked at two different short films. One called Ashes, the top one and one called Lemonade, the bottom one. Both of the short films that I have looked at is horror like and dark. I like the techniques and art parts of the film but not the fact that it is dark and horror. I have brainstormed my notes because I find it easier to follow and read my notes.

Out of the two films that I have looked at I have preferred the first one. This is because I found it more interesting. The parts that I found interesting from this film is the blood dripping part with the word. This is because it is in a sort of art style/word art that I like. It grabs the attention straight away that something wrong has happened in the film or something more serious because of the blood and the red colour.

The music on the first short film uses non diagetic sound. This is because you cant see the music. I like the fact that it uses a monologue to show the character without them speaking. I like all of the shots that is used in the first one of the man and the woman together. I like the music part of the heart beating type of sound. This is a non diagetic sound as you cant see it. It makes it interesting with the fact that the sound is a heartbeat sound. It is almost as though the audience is inside the body. It gives the tension when the heartbeat gets faster showing that something is wrong with one of the character's as the heartbeat gradually gets faster.

The second film(Lemonade) is more gorey and horror like.  It is as though there is a secret character behind the skin.  This is because the character was acting in a strange way. In my opinion I don't think that this character is a good character because they are   forcing their  friend to do something that they  don't want to do especially when they haven't payed for the items that they use. This character is the male one because of his appearance as a dark character. Almost like a gough.

The music is more dramatic and dark. It is as though the two women are like best friends with the fact that they do everything together.  Even if it involves using an item or two that they haven't payed for as well as the bully type woman forcing her friend to having something nasty that she doesn't want without paying. This part of the short film shows that one of the woman characters likes to steal for herself and her friend but the other woman doesn't want to steal or have what her friend is making her have. This shows how mean one of the woman is to her friend causing her to do something that she doesn't necessarily want to do, but she doesn't give her friend a choice. The forest scene is a great scene for the film because it shows the two women walking through a forest of darkness.  The music for the second film is non diagetic as there isn't any music that you can physically see.  I think that the photo of my research has covered a lot of this.

This was some of my research about short films showing that they don't need to be that long but are still great to watch. This shows the research that I have done using my notebook and a pen to write down important notes. Not all short films need to have talking in to create a great storyline/plot. They can be done by having no talking/no dialogue but still have a great story to follow. The music that short films have is varied they often go on throughout the short film to hold the length of no dialogue. I like it when the music on short films
