Proposal

My story that I have though of for my short film is two girls who are in college. One of the girl's/friends is hiding a secret from the other friend of her being a cartoon as her real identity.  Towards the middle of the short film one of the girl's has a flashback of her life. This is a flashback of the girl 's true identity from her previous life. This would be black and white because it shows that it is old. The two girls dont know the girl's secret or who she really is towards the short film. At the end the two girls are normal, they finally understand each other. One of the girl's reveals her identity to her friend outside college. The story shows two girls at college as ordinary girls. They are outside their lesson as they dont want to enter. One of the girl's doesn't want anyone to know her actually identity.  The short film that I would like to create is non linear because I would like to use a short flashback of the girl's identity before she is normalized to go to college, before she reveals to her friend who she really is.  The girl's friend is shocked to discover her friend's real life as a cartoon. I think that this is a great story and secret to show through a short film.   I have chosen to possibly use this story idea because I feel as though it is a good idea.

The plot for the short film is great because it fits the brief of having a secret. It would show a secret character acting normal whilst being in college. The amount of actors  that I would like to star in my short film is two. I would only like to use two actors because it would show the main story or backstory of the two characters. These are the two main characters for my short film and the only amount of characters that I would like to use. Using two actors would show how the two characters react to each other and their friendship that they have as friends. The type of narrative structure that I would use for my short film would be single strand. This is because I would only like the story/short film to be from one person's point of view. In this case it is from the secret girl's perspective. This is because it would show the life of a girl who is keeping a secret from everyone. She is a normal college girl who enters college to meet another girl which is her friend. It is from her perspective because I want to show how the girl will react of going to college with her friend of hiding an extraordinary secret.  The single strand would show how well she manages at college and outside. It also shows whether she will reveal her secret or not to her friend which she does. The single strand would show the girl revealing her identity to her friend outside college where her friend will be shocked and confused. This single strand would be at the end of the short film showing who the girl really is- and her story from a secret girl (that she had to hide from people ) going to college as a girl(not in her body) to revealing her self in front of her friend outside college showing her amazing journey from a secret-human back to a secret again.

I would like to use an open ending for my short film because I dont feel as though a closed ending would work for my story. An open ending for my short film would work a lot better because it would raise questions of what would happen to the girl after her secret is revealed and what her friend will do. It would raise questions of whether the girl will keep her secret to her and her friend or whether she will show other people. I would also like to get the reaction of the audience wanting to watch more to see what happens. It would be easier for me to do an open ending for this story because I dont know how to make it closed.

The effects that I might use for my short film is a magical type effect of the girl revealing her identity. I would use a harry potter type magic effect as though some-one is doing a spell or transforming, This is because I would like to add a bit of magic to my short film. The main genres that I would like to use for my short film is abit of comedy from the two friends possibly doing slapstick and an adventure of the secret girl hiding her identity and then revealing it in public just to her friend. Another effect that I would use for my short film is possibly split screen of the two friend's journey to college as themselves- as two different characters and their identities. This is because I would like to get the point across of the two friends not being friends, I would show who they really are and their journeys to college before meeting and becoming friends. Another effect that I would like to use is a tinted effect/black and white. This would be used in the flashback of the secret girl as her secret before becoming human to hide her identity. It would show that the flashback is old and a memory to the secret girl that no longer exists. I might also use slow-motion for the secret girl transforming into her secret and true identity in front of her friend. I would have this slow- motion because it would show who the character is, I would like the audience to get a closer look and time to work out who the girl is without it being speed up so the transformation can be nice and slow to get the full feel and emotion of the girl transforming from her cover self to her actual and real self.

The music that I would like to use for my short film is magical music of the transformation to show that this is the magical part of my short film. I would add tension possibly sad funeral music or part of a song for the girl's flashback as her real identity to show that that bit is gone, and that she has moved on from her past. This would make the audience feel as though they understand the girl's flashback as if they might be there themselves. The music would show the sad part of the short film of the girl looses her life and having to live her life in a world that she isn't used to or from making one true friend. I would add music also to the part of the two friends waiting in a corridor not in a lesson. The music in this part would show that the two friends are thinking of something upsetting. I might use a sound of a college bell indicating the two friends to be in college. This would be cut before the two girls enter their lesson. I dont want to show this not the best part of the film. I would also like to add a monologue or voice-over of the girl who has kept this secret from her friend for a while. The monologue would be about her new life with a true friend made. The monologue would also be about the girl with a secret telling the audience her new transport and how much her life is different and changed to happiness. This would show the audience that the secret girl is living a happy life now in a new world that she isn't used to. It would also show a bit of sorriness to the secret girl from the audience showing that the girl with an amazing secret loosing her world and family to living and being trapped in a world of loneliness with one friend. The very end of the short film would be a small monologue of the girl talking about her family and how she lost her family/world.

The audience that my short film is aimed for is for mainly children but teenagers aswell. This is because there is a cartoon character involved and children love cartoon characters. They would be aimed for people aged 10+ because of the fact that it isn't fully cartoon. More teenagers would prefer this  type of short film compared to children who would watch and prefer longer type films. It would be aimed for a 12 A film with no violence in the plot. I dont want violence in the plot anyway.

  1. This sounds really good. More use of media terminology would be good, e.g. diegetic/non diegetic sound. wouldn't it be more of a multi-strand, told from 2 perspectives?
