Today I have researched/looked at a few short films on a website called http://www.thefilmnetwork.co.uk/film/centurion-resurrection (BBC film network)
I have found this very interesting because it has a lot of short films on the website showing how
it is done in professional terms/ways. It has inspired me to do something similar because I like some of the ways that the directors use different techniques to add more drama and effect.
I have learnt what realist and linear things are. Realistic is when it could or does happen in real life and Non realist is the opposite(when it doesn't/cant happen in real life like magical things). Linear is when the story is in order without any flashbacks and non linear is the opposite(when there is flashbacks). I have also learnt what single strand and multi strand narratives are. Single Strand narrative is when the story is told or focused on one character(back story), Multi Strand narrative is when the story or film is told or focused on more than one character(two characters), from their perspective.
I have also relearnt how to use monologues. A monologue is a paragraph or sentence where a person is talking about their life or story without talking. This is normally done in one person, from the characters point of view. I learnt this back in Drama in secondary school. I like monologues because it gets the characters point of view across without talking.
I have learnt what a short film should include and what it shouldn't. It shouldn't be longer than 1-2 minutes otherwise it is longer than a short film. Short films don't include Guns, swearing or knifes or drugs. If there is a horror or crime it is shown with make-up and to the camera. Not to the audience.
The colours used in this short film is a bage colour showing that it isn't from the modern times/days. This also shows that it is supposed to be set in the roman times because of the centurion rising out from the water
Monologues would be very good to use in a short film because it shows what a character is feeling without them talking. The monologues show a character and their character through non verbal speech. This would be very good for a short film as you will be able to follow and understand a character as well as listen to what they have to say through non verbal talking. This would be non diegetic because you cant see a monologue which shows that it is a great effect to use when creating short films which would get the audiences attention without them seeing what the characters are directly saying.
You've taking on board, a good understanding of terminology. Well done!
